In the Nat. Comm. paper, Tatiana Lebedeva et al. use CRISPR knock-in into the beta-catenin gene of Nematostella and show that, surprisingly, endomesoderm specification by beta-catenin signaling appears to be a bilaterian invention rather than a feature common for Cnidaria and Bilateria.
